The Mountain View Library is designed to teach grade-level-appropriate skills that enable students to grow to be independent library users when seeking materials for either classroom work or pleasure reading. Every class receives guided lessons that integrate with current classroom curriculum, current events, or specific literary themes. Additionally, book talks, readings and displays are designed around themes or genres to expand students’ awareness of choices, to encourage sampling of a wide variety of reading material, and to support classroom required reading assignments. There are many enrichment programs the students have the opportunity to participate in such as the Battle of the Books(4-6), and Author Go-Round (5th).

All students also have the opportunity to participate in the California Young Reader Medal Award Program.

Kaeley Christensen, our Library Media Specialist manages circulation and maintains the collection, as well as designs enticing curriculum to promote a love of reading and fosters lifelong learning.

With the generous support of parents and our PTA funds, Mountain View Library is able to maintain a rich and up-to-date collection of nearly 15,000 volumes, including non-fiction, biographies, reference materials, new fiction, classics, periodicals, picture books, and early readers. Mrs. Christensen continually works with teachers to ensure that we have the necessary resources to support research projects and literature-based curriculum. She also loves receiving special requests for new titles from the students. Mrs. Christensen strives to create an inviting, stimulating, diverse and accessible environment that encourages each child to develop the confidence and motivation to read and appreciate quality literature.
